(Including Tembisa)
In 1903, Karl Wollf subdivided one section of his farm into residential stands and called the village Kempten, after the town in Bavaria where he was born. The English version of the name, Kempton Park, only came into use later. Kempton Park is strategically situated near O.R.Tambo (Johannesburg) Airport, at the centre of the industrial growth point of Gauteng and close to both Johannesburg and Pretoria. Tembisa is the township 15 kilometres away, which was established to house black workers during apartheid.
