Paulpietersburg
The roots of Paulpieteraburg a picturesque town in the foothills of Dumbe Mountain lie in a piece of the then Transvaal Boer republic surveyed by HJ Maarschalk in 1888. The demarcated land was named in honour of Boer president Paul Kruger and Voortrekker hero Pieter Joubert. Paulpietersburg played its part in the military shaping of the region. The peace treaty that ended the Anglo-Boer war was signed at the nearby Egode River, while the Anglo-Zulu war site of Ntombe is 30km away.
Lüneburg
Even though the Lüneburg Congregation was only constituted in 1869, the area had been inhabited by a group of missionaries and colonists since 1860.
